We rented a VW Polo for about 10 days (late Sep to early Oct) and drove from Thessaloniki to Kassandra, to the mountains around Arnea, to Kerkini lake and back to Thessaloniki.

Traffic features
In order to get to Thessaloniki after you hired a car, you need to follow the national road 67 and then enter either the road 16 at the intersection by taking a left turn. In case you take a right turn, the route will get you to Perea. Road 16 goes near the coastline and allows to get to Kalamaria Municipality of Thessaloniki.
In order to get to Thessaloniki ring road, you need to proceed by the road 67 a little longer and then take a left turn at the second intersection to the national road 24. In case you are going to Chalkidiki, take a right turn at the intersection.
Useful tips
There are a lot of petrol stations nearby the facility. If you go along the road 67 out of the airport on the intersection with road 16, there are BP and Aegean petrol stations. As you go to Thessaloniki there are Shell, BP, Elin and local petrol stations.
Do you want to wash a car? The closest car wash service to the Thessaloniki Airport is located along the road 16. It's called Aris dr.car wash. If you choose the route 24 you can stop at I-wash, which is a little farther from the facility. In Thessaloniki there are plenty of car wash services for any type of vehicle.
Required documents
Make sure that you have an International Driver's Permit (or EU Driver Permit), as well as your Passport or ID Card with a photo with you. Your driver's license should be issued at least 2 years ago. Absence of these documents will make it impossible to sign a contract.
Don't forget! When giving the car back, the tank should contain the same amount of gas it had when it was given to you.
